Let’s face it, summer is coming to a close and all might be dreading the cold months to come.  But let’s not forget about fall, a season packed with football, pumpkin pie and heavy knits.  Fall preparations are a must for many homeowners.

Let Your Home Breathe!
Before you close up for winter, make sure you give your home one last window session.  You have to live indoor breathing dry air for almost 5 months, you and your home deserve a little fresh air.

Fall Cleaning
Just like spring cleaning, you should give your home a thorough cleaning in the fall before boarding up.  Depending on the chemicals you use to clean, (which I recommend Green products) you need to make sure you have a ventilated area to clean in. Don’t hesitate to call a local cleaning company near you to help you with the fall preparations.

Change Filters
During any fall preparation, the changing of your filters is very important. These filters need to be new or cleaned so your breathing air is suitable for an extended period of time.

Energy Checks
Energy is used in large during the winter season.  Follow up with the Energy Commission Center for further information on energy saving tips.

Furnace Check
Checking your furnace in the fall will help prevent it from breaking when you need it most.  Your maintenance book should be helpful for upkeep instructions. For HVAC duct cleaning services contact a local service provider.

Gutter Maintenance
Check your gutters frequently in the fall.  If any leaves are left within the gutters during colder, snowier months, this can cause bigger problems once spring rolls around.  Cleared gutters prevent ice and snow buildup, which can further damage your gutters.

Windows and Door Checks
Windows and doors may need their seals checked.  This will help prevent drafts throughout the winter season.  Plastic window coverings can also help with older windows in your home.

Minor Repairs Outside
Maintenance on the outside of your home is important too. Cracked driveways, leaky gutters and faulty siding and roofing can cause larger problems when the weather hits extremes.

These simple steps can help with your home’s fall checklist.  These home maintenance tips can save you time and money during the winter months.  For further assistance don’t hesitate to call a local restoration company near you to help you with the fall preparations.
