Speed Cleaning: How to Vacuum Your House in Under 10 Minutes

By Luke Armstrong

We all get busy, and sometimes the housework can elude us until the last minute. There’s the panic and rush, as well as the knowledge that you are not going to get it done in time. The vacuuming is so important because it can help to remove allergens, get rid of pet hair, and even lift odors from the carpet.

Many people will do this several times a week, but it is not uncommon to forget about this seemingly laborious task. However, it doesn’t have to take ages to complete and you don’t always have to spend an hour vacuuming the house.

Here are some tips to vacuuming your home in under ten minutes by speed cleaning.

#1 Trafficked Areas

First, think about the places that receive the most traffic in your home. Places like the front entrance hall and living room are often the ones that have the most comings and goings throughout the day, so it is important to focus on these areas first.

Look for the big lumps that need to be removed first and go from there. Make sure you use a good attachment on your vacuum that will suck everything up quickly and efficiently. Work and fast to make the most of your 10 minutes.

#2 The Rugs

If you have area rugs, then you should put a lot of effort into these. There is no need to put a lot of time into it, just make sure they are vacuumed thoroughly as they can pick up a lot of dirt and muck throughout the day and week.

This part is definitely worth the effort. Some people vacuum the curtains as well, and it could be worth it if you have the time and they are looking quite dusty. If you have a high pile rug see more tips here.

#3 Prioritizing

If you are having guests over, you need some serious prioritization. Your guests are not going to be going into the bedrooms or office (although do make sure these are tidy in case of snoopers), but they will be entering the kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom.

Focus on these rooms and getting the bulk of the vacuuming done in there. As long as the big and noticeable dirt chunks are gone, you are safe. Once that is done, you can whizz around sucking up spider webs if you have time as well. No one likes to be surrounded by cobwebs.

#4 Work the Full Ten Minutes

By this we mean don’t stop. Once you start your ten-minute vacuuming blitz, you need to keep going solidly until the time is up. If you stop for a break you are wasting valuable time that could be spent making sure your house is clean and presentable, either for family or friends.

Make sure you put extra elbow grease into the thick carpets and all of the main rooms are vacuumed to an inch of their life. It’s all very possible in ten minutes, you just need to work hard and keep yourself going through it.
